My Websites Google Rankings Dropped – Now What?

Recently Google put the smack down on SEO Spam by releasing a series of algorithmic updates like Penguin andPanda 3.6 which rolled out on April 27, 2012.

If you’ve noticed a significant loss in rankings, chances are you’ve either hired and/or are an SEO firm who has been practicing some crappy spam techniques to gain rankings and now – it’s caught up.

It’s unfortunate but more and more small businesses are finding out they’ve unknowingly hired less than ethical SEO companies, and now they are paying for it.

So what’s next?

The Association of Ethical SEOs list a group of approved “SEO Companies,” who live and breath ethical SEO tactics, and their results are there to show the benefits of doing thing by the book.

Regardless of where you’re at you’ll want to check out Sean Hakes a Denver SEO Consultant who brings over 10 years of professional SEO services, penalty assessment and has consulted some of the largest leading .com’s around the United States.

Small business owners, educate yourself before selecting an SEO provider – it will do you a tremendous service and you’ll find yourself benefiting from SEO rather than scratching your head wondering “Why Me?”.

Google Smacks Web Spammers…. Finally.

The SEO scene has changed dramatically over the past few days and once said SEO spam tactics that worked brilliantly has come to an abrupt stop. Several weeks ago Google’s own Matt Cutts first mentioned the update during an SXSW conference several week ago.

For weeks speculation peaked with SEO specialist around the World trying to translate what he meant and today, we all know.

Google has heavily targeted web spam. From keyword stuffing and article spinners and link farms, Google’s come down and they’ve come down hard dismembering spammy SEOs in bulk.

For most ethical SEO providers, this news came with open arms and overdue anticipation.

In addition, independent SEO Consultants like the Denver SEO (Sean Hakes) have setup free open-house conferences to setup free consultations to determine and identify web spam and get websites re-listed quickly.

If you’re a small business and you’ve found your website has vanished or be devalued in Google there’s a good chance you’ve been hit by a penality and you should consult an independent, ethical SEO consultant immediately.

Why John R. Quain (Fox News) Hates Google & SEO

Earlier today a professional acquaintance of mine posted on Google +1 an article by John R. Quain from Fox News titled “3 Reasons Google Is Killing Internet Search,” and labeled Search Engine Optimization as one of his reasons. His other reasons included “it’s tough to be King,” and “Faulty Algorithms.”

Search Engine Optimization:

“Still more corrosive are attempts at so-called search engine optimization or SEO. Experts in this area promise companies that they can improve page rankings by doing everything from fixing keywords to reorganizing a Web site.

SEO firms argue strenuously that they are legitimate businesses, but in general much of what they do undermines Google’s original intent, namely to analyze the content of pages and Web sites, independently determine what those page are about, and deliver relevant results.

Attempts to change the content of what’s on a page to make it more appealing to the search engine in effect changes that information, often making it less relevant and in effect foiling the search engine’s endeavors to be accurate.

Our search results were just fine before SEO came along, thank you very much.

All of this is a result of the fact that Google is the world’s most popular search engine, which makes it a target. Google fights a daily cyberbattle to keep its results relevant, but it appears to be losing the war, drowning in a sea of SEO.

Perhaps the only way to make Google better is to make it less popular.

So the next time you go to Google something, don’t. Try a different search engine, such as WolframAlpha (for scientific topics), Omgili (for message boards and discussion groups), Lycos, DuckDuckGo, or Quintura. They may give you better results — and help save Google in the process.”

SEO firms argue strenuously that they are legitimate businesses

The SEO scene without a doubt has it’s problems as do most industries. If Quain considers SEO Firms who pay taxes, provide jobs, stimulate their local economy and provide a value added service to small business owners with very limited budgets the opportunity to compete illegitimate, then there’s either a screw loose or he has personal reasons for smacking the SEO Scene.

Our search results were just fine before SEO came along, thank you very much.

I’m not sure which rock Quain has been hiding under but SEO has has been around just about since the beginning of search engines. The only difference is there are more and more text book ‘SEO Experts’ popping up.

So the next time you go to Google something, don’t. Try a different search engine, such as WolframAlpha (for scientific topics), Omgili (for message boards and discussion groups), Lycos, DuckDuckGo, or Quintura. They may give you better results — and help save Google in the process.”

Don’t waste your breath – Google is by far too convenient and accessible. Oh and next time you have the urge to see what’s happening on Fox why not try a different news source (one that isn’t owned by News Corp) like CNN or MSNBC?

My final comment is this: In addition to SEO, Quain claims that Google’s Algorithm is faulty. This comment alone leaves me to believe that Quain at some point investment some time into trying to figure out Google’s Faulty Algorithm and failed.

Now that I’ve guess how about you give it a shot in the comments below.

Local Lighthouse | SEO / SEM

TOPIC: Local Lighthouse – 15991 Red Hill Avenue Suite 202, Tustin, CA 92780
Tel. Number: 800-224-1002

At SEM Showdown we’re in the business of starting conversations. Recently a SEM Showdown reader submitted a call to us from Local Lighthouse out of Tustin, CA who in a sales call message identified themselves as a, “Data Service Provider for Google.”

According to the playable message below the pitch is simply this; Google is calling you and offering you some sort of 1st page placement as if some other advertiser dropped off and they are looking to your company as a fill in for a reasonable price.

If you’re a small business who’s heard of similar tactics – first Google won’t call you and second Google isn’t a paid directory and companies don’t simply fall off and replaced by your business for a $299/mo+ fee. Scam? I think so but you be the judge.

Here’s the message.

Start the conversation by leaving your thoughts below. Do you think sales tactics like this are ethical or unethical? Could this be considered trademark infringement by Google?

TotalLiveChat Reviews – ReachLocal

ReachLocal

Update* (See bottom of page.)

Shortly after I dedicated to no longer pursue SEM Showdown in early 2010 I decided to invest into a Live Chat program that we later called iClick ChatBack. We tested consumer interaction through chat intelligence and quickly learned that by simply adding a live chat solution to a website resulted in almost immediate results and this was proven through not only internal clients but a pilot that was engaged with another leader in local internet advertising.

Last week I decided to give TotalLiveChat by ReachLocal a try for our SEO Firm based in Denver…

The reason for not using iClick ChatBack as our live chat solution was simple. My Agency is primary an SEO Firm and in order to be the best at what we do we needed to focus on just that; organic search engine placement which lead me to in defiantly pause our in-house chat solution.

The good news is this; ReachLocal has a Chat solution that appears to be very credible and upon in-house test we realized that by adding live chat to our current customers websites, daily site conversions nearly doubled on average.

Last week I installed the TotalLiveChat code at SeanHakes.com and I’m patiently waiting on the operator behind to curtain to push the bottom.

Several reasons why Live Chat is so Effective:

  • During the day, many consumers are at work. Though most business owners don’t like to think this, many workers browse the web for products and services they are considering on purchasing in the near future. Having a chat feature available with a live rep allows the consumer to proactively research and get additional information about products and services  without picking up a phone.
  • Human to Human Interaction: Say what? Many American’s have a problem with simply picking up the phone to find more information about a product or service especially if they don’t know much about it. Some say it makes them nervous while others state they may feel intimidated and/or embarrassed that they don’t know more about a product of service. Our test show that regardless of your social standing – ANYONE will chat because they don’t have to look someone in the face. Texting, Emailing and Chatting is puts a consumer at ease and is a simple way to communicate without feeling overwhelmed.

I’ll be sure to update you on my findings with TotalLiveChat but for now I’m very excited to see what it can do for my business.

Update*

7/13/2011

Several days ago we installed TotalLiveChat on SeanHakes.com. The first couple of non-billed conversations were solicitations. Today things have turned around quite a bit and we got a lead that turned out to be an incredibly lucrative long-term deal so at this point our ROI is threw the roof.
